Injection Molding Standards

Default dimensional tolerances, SPI surface finishes, tooling classes, and DFM parameters applied to injection molded parts and mold builds.

Drawings override defaults

These defaults apply only where your drawing or 3D model annotations are silent. Toleranced dimensions, cosmetic surface designations, and material/finish callouts on your drawing always override the defaults above. Every quote includes a free DFM analysis reviewing wall thickness, draft angles, gate locations, sink marks, and weld lines before tooling begins.

Default Tolerances

FeatureStandardPrecision / Limit
Dimensional tolerance±0.100 mm (±0.004")±0.025 mm (±0.001") for engineered resins
Draft angles0.5° minimum on all vertical faces3.0°–5.0° for textured surfaces (SPI sandblast or VDI)
Minimum wall thicknessABS 0.76 mm / PC 1.02 mm / PP 0.64 mmPA6/PA66 0.51 mm / POM (Delrin) 0.38 mm
Max part envelope1,200 × 1,000 × 800 mmSubject to part geometry & flow analysis
Mold life (SPI class)SPI Class 103 (100K–500K shots), P20 pre-hardened steelSPI Class 101 (1,000,000+ shots), S136/H13 hardened steel

* Values match the specification tables on our Injection Molding service page. Tighter requirements are reviewed per part.

Finish Expectations

FinishSpecificationWhat to Expect
Mirror polish (SPI A-1 to A-3)Diamond polish, Ra 0.012–0.10 µmUltra-glossy, optically clear parts — lenses, light pipes, high-cosmetic consumer trims.
Semi-gloss (SPI B-1 to B-3)Grit paper polish, Ra 0.05–0.35 µmMedium luster matte finish; reduces reflection and hides minor mold tool marks.
Fine matte (SPI C-1 to C-3)Stone polish, Ra 0.35–0.80 µmDull, non-reflective surfaces; excellent scratch resistance and masks parting lines.
Sandblast / VDI texturesGlass bead/flint blast, Ra 0.80–3.00 µm (VDI 3400)Satin textures and erosion patterns for ergonomic grips and heavy industrial parts.

Edges, Burrs & Cosmetic Surfaces

Parting lines, gate vestiges, and ejector marks are inherent to injection molding. Fine matte SPI C finishes mask parting lines, and VDI 3400 textures are used on industrial parts. Flag cosmetic surfaces and acceptable gate locations on your drawing — gate locations, sink marks, and weld lines are reviewed in the free DFM analysis before tooling.

Inspection Options

  • Free DFM analysis with every quote (wall thickness, draft angles, gate locations, sink marks, weld lines)
  • T1 samples provided for approval before production begins
  • Moldflow analysis during in-house mold design
  • Material traceability via resin suppliers (SABIC, DuPont, Mitsubishi)
  • Mold maintenance records provided on request — you own the mold

Vietnam Network Notes

DEWIN partners with 25+ injection molding factories across Vietnam running machines from JSW, Toshiba, Haitian, and Engel, ranging from 50T to 2,500T. Tooling uses P20, NAK80, S136, and H13 tool steels, made with EDM, wire EDM, and high-speed CNC.

Typical Lead Times

ScopeLead Time
Simple molds2–3 weeks
Standard production molds (to T1 samples)15–25 business days
Express tooling10–12 business days
Complex multi-cavity tools5–8 weeks
