Vietnam's Sheet Metal Advantage
Sheet metal fabrication is one of Vietnam's strongest manufacturing sectors. The country has invested heavily in modern fiber laser cutters, CNC press brakes, and robotic welding cells — equipment on par with the best Chinese factories, at significantly lower operating costs.
For US buyers, the math is compelling: Vietnamese sheet metal parts are exempt from Section 301 tariffs, while identical Chinese parts face 25%. Combined with lower labor and overhead costs, our clients consistently see 35–55% total cost savings on sheet metal components.
DEWIN works with 30+ sheet metal factories across Vietnam — from small, agile shops specializing in low-volume precision work to large-scale operations running 24/7 progressive stamping lines. We match your project to the right facility based on volume, complexity, and certification requirements.

Design for Manufacturability (DFM) Rules
Optimizing your sheet metal designs for manufacturing reduces tooling setups, prevents material tearing, and decreases unit costs. Adhere to these fundamental rules when designing your components:
Key Design Rules
- Minimum Bend Radius: Must be at least 1X Material Thickness (MT) to prevent tensile cracking at the outer bend radius. Specify a consistent bend radius across all features.
- Holes & Slots Diameter: Minimum hole diameter should be equal to the Material Thickness (1X MT). For stainless steel alloys, specify 1.5X MT to prevent punch breakage or laser heat distortion.
- Hole-to-Edge Distance: To prevent stretching and edge bulging, locate holes at least 2X MT away from the sheet edge.
- Hole-to-Bend Distance: Holes must be placed at least 2.5X to 3.0X MT away from the bend line tangent to prevent hole elongation.
- Bend Relief: When a bend terminates along a flat edge, specify a bend relief width of at least 1.5X MT (or 1.5 mm minimum) and a depth of at least 1X MT to prevent tearing.
Material Options & Grades
| Material Family | Recommended Grades | Key Characteristics |
|---|---|---|
| Aluminum | 5052-H32, 6061-T6 | 5052-H32 is highly formable; 6061-T6 has high structural strength but larger bend radii required |
| Stainless Steel | 304, 316, 430 | 304 is the food/medical standard; 316 offers superior marine-grade corrosion resistance |
| Carbon Steel | SPCC (Cold-Rolled), SPHC (Hot-Rolled), Q235 | SPCC provides smooth finishes and tight tolerances; SPHC is preferred for structural frames |
| Coated Steel | SGCC, SECC (Galvanized) | Electro-galvanized or hot-dip coatings for cost-effective outdoor rust protection |
| Copper & Brass | C110 Copper, C260 Brass | High electrical and thermal conductivity for busbars, terminals, and shielding |

The Vietnam Advantage: Tariff Exemptions & Rigorous Quality Vetting
Sourcing your sheet metal parts and stamping assemblies from Vietnam bypasses the **25% US Section 301 tariffs** on Chinese imports. DEWIN mitigates offshore sourcing risks through our local presence and our proprietary 50-Point Dolphin Audit framework, validating quality systems (ISO 9001:2015, IATF 16949, ISO 13485) and equipment calibration (including 2D/3D inspection scanners) on-site.
Frequently Asked Questions
What sheet metal processes do you offer?
Laser cutting (fiber & CO2), CNC punching, progressive die stamping, CNC press brake bending, TIG/MIG/spot welding, robotic welding, and assembly. We handle the full workflow from flat blanks to finished assemblies.
What materials can you work with?
Mild steel, stainless steel (304, 316, 430), aluminum (5052, 6061), galvanized steel, copper, brass, and spring steel. Thickness from 0.3mm to 20mm depending on process.
What's the tooling cost for stamping?
Progressive dies typically range from $3,000–$15,000 depending on complexity and number of stations. Simple blanking dies start around $1,500. Tooling is 40–60% less than Chinese equivalents.
Can you handle weldments and assemblies?
Yes — many of our factories are full-service. They laser cut, bend, weld, finish, and assemble in one facility. This reduces handling, improves quality, and shortens lead times.
What certifications do your factories have?
ISO 9001 is baseline. Many also hold ISO 14001, IATF 16949 (automotive), and AWS D1.1 welding certifications. We match factory certifications to your industry requirements.
How fast can you deliver?
Prototypes: 5–7 days. First production run: 15–20 days. Repeat orders: 7–10 days. We maintain safety stock arrangements for high-volume recurring orders.
